WOW! Is it just me or did 2017 last for about 2.75 months? In any event, 2018 is here and instead of looking at it as a clean slate, I’m focusing on what new things I’ll learn, new books I'll read, who I'll meet and how I can add value to others. That being said, I wanted to take a moment to share with you a handful of things I learned in 2017.
Change is necessary
I think most of us are guilty of falling victim to one of the most dangerous things: Routine. We lull ourselves into a false sense of safety and we forget that in order to get more and do more we have to do DIFFERENT! You have to realize that change is oftentimes the catalyst to realizing the promise that awaits.
Do NOT be afraid to change what you do, where you live, who you hang out with, how you spend your money, how you think and so on. Change is not the enemy. Change is your friend when you do it with purpose.
You know that thing you feel in your gut at night when you know you need to make a change? FOLLOW IT!
Read more books
In 2017 I read 12 books and I've learned MORE in 12 months than I’ve learned in the past 10 years combined! Books help solve pressing questions, they give you new perspectives to ponder and they are the fastest way to peek into the greatest minds of our time. It’s amazing how things written over 100 years ago are still relevant today and even more amazing how one idea can spark change that can last a lifetime.
You’re doing yourself a disservice if you're not an active reader. I encourage you to step out and pick up something to read regardless of how long its been or if you consider yourself someone who thinks it really doesn't matter.

Surround yourself with the right people
I can’t stress this enough. The right person can literally change your life. The right people can help take you to the next level and beyond. The right tribe around you can transform how you feel about yourself, how big you set your goals and so much more. Changing your circle of friends might be something you need to do in order to reach heights that you’ve been struggling with.
Just understand that it’s ok to build a new tribe. It’s ok to give more of your time to people that add value to you. In fact, I would say that it’s a must. Don’t underestimate the power of developing relationships with the right people. Who are the right people you might ask? If you just take a moment to reflect on who is currently in your life you’ll be able to answer that question fairly quickly.
If you don't have anyone that adds value to your life then wipe the slate clean and make 2018 your year to create a new inner circle. A year from now it'll all make sense.
2017 was amazing! I grew, I learned, I read, I reflected and I changed. I changed the food I ate, I changed how I dressed, my confidence grew and I made several positive strides in several different areas of my life. Looking forward to 2018 I couldn’t be more excited. I have big plans, aspirations and I am in a completely different position mentally, physically and emotionally than I was this time last year.
I hope 2017 was everything you had hoped and I wish promise and fulfillment in 2018.
I’ll leave you with a favorite quote of mine….
“It is our duty to find ourselves.:” - Woodrow Wilson, 1907
